Ukerewe and Ukara Islands Tour

If you get the time, you should definitely visit Ukerewe Island. Ukerewe is a big island situated north of Mwanza at the Lake Victoria . Some locals refer to it as 'little Zanzibar', and it is truly a place to relax, unwind and watch the beautiful nature. There are wonderful beaches, idyllic small villages, rock formations, jungle/forest, wide open spaces, and green, hilly landscape. Don't expect something big i.e. big hotel resorts.

Ukerewe - The Dancing Stone
The Dancing stone are located Nyaburebheka in a village known as Nyamaga. Nyamaga is located at Duke Ward. Nyaburebheka, which in Kikerewe dialect means the dancing stone or the stone which dances. The Rock site - Nyaburebheka, an invaluable heritage of Mwanza, is perched on a huge rock onto an imposing hill. Upon reaching at the entrance which leads to the other end where dancer-stone is. All visitors to the dancing rock are required to take off their shoes and place them at the entry of the ‘cave’.

Above Albert Sengo rests his hand on the ‘Dancing Stone’ and below is the Fossilized footprint (Inset) of a presumed boy who went missing after stepping on the rock by his left foot over 212 years ago.

Apart from the Dancing stone you should visit Ukerewe because of the local people (who are extremely friendly) and because you want to see the tremendous scenery on the island. Also, the 'capital city' of the Island Nansio is worth a visit. If you haven't gone to smaller cities or villages, Nansio will give you an impression of this. It has a nice market and you can get most things there.
A visit to Ukerewe it's worth an experience.
